ROTARY CLUB OF ORILLIA

Once a month, a student is selected from each high school, by their teachers and peers, to be Rotary Student of the Month.

Each of these students has enriched their school communities through their unique individual efforts and leadership.

The Rotary Students of the Month for April are Jonathan Chan (Twin Lakes Secondary School), Ryleigh Baker (Patrick Fogarty Catholic Secondary School) and Sam Greco (Orillia Secondary School).

Jonathan Chan (Twin) is an excellent student who has also been involved with Students Council for several years, including having previously been a grade rep. He is currently a Link Crew member, helping grade 9 students adjust to high school. In addition, Jonathan has participated in several school productions, including Legally Blonde and Midsummer-Jersey, where he has demonstrated his talent in acting, singing and dancing. Jonathan has also taught himself the guitar as well as a host of magic tricks to entertain both students and staff. He is a motivated learner and enjoys helping others.

Ryleigh Baker (PF) loves to play in the band. She is section leader in the saxophone section and sits as first alto in the jazz band. Ryleigh was recently awarded the ‘Excellence in Performance Award’ at the Collingwood Regional Music Festival. She also excels at videography and has produced a video for Grade 8 students to help them in their transition to high school. In addition, she has created a promotional video for PF’s Relay for Life team, which has significantly helped in fundraising for this important cause. Despite her busy schedule, she has maintained her marks in the 90th percentile throughout high school.

Sam Greco (OSS) is Prime Minister of Students’ Council and has also logged 500 hours of community service outside of high school. He has spent countless hours at Spencer House, assisting seniors as well as helping alongside elementary teachers at Monsignor Lee with student activities. Sam is a change maker and has been active in National Youth Week, Mariposa Folk Festival and Relay for Life. In addition to being an honour roll student throughout high school, he has been described as patient, kind and always willing to help out.

Congratulations to all three of these wonderful students!
