The Orillia Wes Brennan Construction minor bantam AA Royals have been named York Simcoe’s team of the year and now will vie for provincial honours. In the bottom row, from left: Nolan MacNeal, JhettWinkel, Teddy McCollum-Kuntz, Owen Kaczanowski, Kobe Gefroy, Aydan Hall and Whyatt Winkel. In the back row: Wes Winkel, Max Barzo, Wyatt Thompson, Max Rutherford, Ben Barzo, Chase Brennan, Owen Buckland, Jack Brennan and Mark Kuntz.

The accolades keep pouring in for Orillia’s Wes Brennan Construction minor bantam AA Royals.

After their improbable provincial championship win last summer, they were honoured recently as the York Simcoe Baseball Association (YSBA) team of the year for 2017.

The award was presented at the YSBA’s annual general meeting where the association’s president, Ted Williams, announced the unanimous winner from a group of five nominees. Williams praised the Orillia team for voluntarily challenging themselves by moving up a division and then improving as the year went on, becoming the only YSBA A community to capture an Ontario Baseball Association AA title.

Orillia is now nominated as Ontario’s team of the year and will compete against three other conference winners at the provincial conference later this month.
