Scooter crash leaves 91-year-old man in serious condition

Police investigating Barrie crash; Vehicle's computerized system information downloaded to determine what happened

A 91-year-old man has been hospitalized with serious injuries after a collision near downtown Barrie today.

Police were called to the scene at 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, where the man was transported to local hospital with serious injuries.

Barrie police communications co-ordinator Peter Leon said Ross Street was closed from Maple Avenue to Bayfield Street for the investigation.

“The vehicle was going east on Ross Street and collided with the scooter, which was heading south,” said Leon.

Police were using computer technology at the scene to map out what happened.

Leon said it was too early to know if charges will be laid, but noted the investigation did include downloading of the vehicle's system information to be able to tell what happened leading up to the collision.

The area could be blocked off until at least 4 p.m., so police are urging people to find an alternate route around the scene.
