Simcoe County Home Builders’ Association strives to build stronger community

'Our members are so incredibly proud to give back,' says executive officer

For members of the Simcoe County Home Builders’ Association (SCHBA), it’s about more than just building houses. It’s also about building community.

The SCHBA, which boasts 105 members ranging from builders/developers, renovators, trades, suppliers and service/professionals, was recently honoured with a Community Service Award from the Canadian Home Builders' Association National Awards.

The award is given to an association for its community service or charitable projects that demonstrate the commitment of the housing industry to making a difference in the quality of life in their communities.

“Our members are so incredibly proud to give back,” said executive officer Sandy Tuckey.

Over the past 15 years, she said the association has managed to raise close to $500,000, which was donated to local organizations and charities.

“Funds raised have stayed in the communities in which they build," Tuckey added.

The SCHBA has a long history of giving back to the local community.

“During the Christmas season, I went to my members to see what we could do to help those in need. Several members came together in the fundraising campaign that I initiated and raised almost $20,000,” she said.

“We decided to split this between the Barrie Food Bank and Christmas Cheer, as both organizations were struggling with their donations due to the pandemic, and rather than food and toy drop-offs they were only accepting cash donations," Tuckey added.

"The Simcoe County Home Builders’ Association takes pride in what we do and have always had the philosophy to give back to the communities in which they build.”
