Simcoe County's Newcomer Recognition Awards set for Thursday night

Due to the ongoing challenges of the COVID-19 medical pandemic, the Simcoe County Local Immigration Partnership has moved the eighth annual Newcomer Recognition Awards celebration to a virtual format. The virtual ceremony will be launched on Nov. 19 at 6 p.m. via YouTube.

This virtual event will showcase the outstanding work being done in communities across Simcoe County by leaders and champions who have and continue to take decisive action to enhance the lives of newcomers in Simcoe County.

Honourees will also be joined by Indira Naidoo-Harris a trusted public leader, policymaker, journalist and advocate who is currently serving as the Associate Vice-President of Diversity & Human Rights at the University of Guelph, who will deliver a keynote address.

Award recipients were nominated by their peers through an open nomination process. Awards will be handed out for the following categories: Immigrant Entrepreneur; Ethno-Cultural Group; Multiculturalism through Education; Service Excellence Award; and Community Champion.

This event will also be available on the County’s Facebook and YouTube pages once initial airing is complete.
