The Liberal Party of Canada, in conjunction with the Simcoe North Federal Liberal Association, is pleased to announce Cynthia Wesley-Esquimaux has been nominated by acclamation as our candidate for Simcoe North.

Dr. Cynthia Wesley-Esquimaux joined Lakehead University in 2013 as Vice-Provost for Aboriginal Initiatives, and became the first Chair on Truth and Reconciliation for the university in 2016. Her goal as Chair has been to spearhead Lakehead's focus on Indigenous priorities and to advise members on issues regarding Indigenous peoples.

Before her career at Lakehead University, Cynthia was the Nexen Chair in Aboriginal Leadership at the Banff Centre in Alberta. She has also held roles as assistant professor in the faculties of Indigenous Studies and Social Work at the University of Toronto, and as an adjunct professor at Carleton University.

Cynthia has written several academic articles that are focused on the history of intergenerational trauma that Indigenous peoples continue to experience in their day-to-day lives. She has expressed a dedication to environmental and humanitarian causes and an intent to focus on those issues during her campaign.
