Single-vehicle collision claims life of 20-year-old man

Members of the Huronia West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and emergency crews were called to assist at a serious collision on St. Vincent Street shortly after 12:30 a.m. this morning.

The lone vehicle involved in the crash, left the roadway, struck a tree and rolled onto its roof. The 20-year-old male passenger was pronounced dead at the scene. The 20-year-old male driver was treated and release from an area hospital with minor injuries. Both men are residents of the city of Barrie.

St. Vincent Street was closed, between Hanmer Street and Jodies Lane for several hours while OPP members trained in collision reconstruction measured and documented the scene.

The name of the deceased male is being withheld pending the notification of next of kin. The cause of the collision remains under investigation.
