World class athletes will be crossing paths on Blue Mountain later this month.

The Audi FIS Ski Cross World Cup is returning to Blue from Jan. 23 to 26.

Ski Cross is a head-to-head race downhill on a course made of technically-challenging terrain.

It’s known as a thrilling spectator sport. The course includes jumps, high-bank turns, and rollers.

Canadian Ashleigh McIvor won a gold medal in the first ever Olympic Women’s Ski Cross race. Canada has continued to perform among the top racers in the world in the Ski Cross event.

At the Olympics in Pyeongchang last year, Canadian Brady Leman won men’s gold and Kelsey Serwa and Brittany Phelan, also Canadian, won gold and silver in the women’s event.

The Blue Mountain event takes place one week before the FIS World Championships, so it will draw Olympic medallists to the local competition.

The qualifier rounds begin at noon on Jan. 25 with finals beginning at 11:30 a.m. on Jan. 26.

Spectators may attend for free, and will be able to watch the big screen from the bottom of the course.

There will also be a World Cup Celebration Festival at Blue Mountain Village during the event.
