Snowbirds announce summer shows in Simcoe County

Iconic team to fly for CFB Borden Canadian Armed Forces Day

The Canadian Forces Snowbirds made a special stop in Simcoe County this week to announce they will be performing in the 2018 CFB Borden Canadian Armed Forces Day and Airshow.

Lieutenant-Colonel Kelly Hewitt, Chief of Staff Military Personnel Generation Training Group, was at Lake Simcoe Regional Airport for the announcement Thursday on behalf of the Base Commander.

“We're pleased to be able to announce the Canadian Forces Snowbirds as a feature event, as well as the CF-18 Demonstration Jet at the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) Day and Airshow on June 2 and 3, 2018," said Lieutenant-Colonel Kelly Hewitt.

Local Snowbird, Snowbird 11 Captain Robbie Hindle, from Midland was part of the advance party at the airport.

Canadian Armed Forces Day was proclaimed in 2002, and is marked annually on the first Sunday in June.

CFB Borden will mark this day with our biennial celebration, which will feature interactive displays from across Base Borden for the public to come and see. There will be vehicles and equipment along with kid-friendly exhibits and members of the CAF.

"CFB Borden is privileged to have an excellent relationship with our neighbouring communities, and this is event is just one way to further those ties.  Members of the CAF are a part of our shared community, and we strive to be a positive and engaged part of it," said Hewitt.

"Simcoe County is rich in military history, with over a century of partnership between CFB Borden and our neighbours. Our local community is a team like any other in the Team of Teams that makes up CFB Borden. As we continue into our second century, the residents of Simcoe County have supported the Base, and for that we are grateful - this event is just one way we show our commitment to our shared communities.”
