There are plenty of resources in the region for seniors, and they’ll be able to find out all about them at an upcoming event in Coldwater.

Simcoe North MPP Jill Dunlop’s annual Day for Seniors will be held Sept. 20 from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Coldwater Arena.

The event is free to attend and lunch is provided.

Last year, it took place at ODAS Park. It is being moved to Coldwater this year as it is a more central location for seniors in the riding.

The day will include guest speakers, a pickleball demonstration and about 40 vendors.

“We kept it very specific to vendors who deal with seniors’ issues,” Dunlop said, noting booths will include information from the Alzheimer Society of Simcoe County, the Canadian Hearing Society, retirement residences, paramedics, lawyers and more.

“It’s a good opportunity to celebrate our seniors,” she added. “We call them ‘sen-agers’ because they’re out there in the community and they’re go-getters.”

Raymond Cho, Ontario’s minister of seniors and accessibility, will be on hand to address the crowd and chat with attendees.

Other speakers include geriatricians Kevin Young and Sandra Bruno, both of whom will MC the event, Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital president and CEO Carmine Stumpo, nutrition specialist Alisa Herriman, Crystal Cabural, a functional fitness, exercise and aging specialist, and Judy Contin, executive director of the Askennonia Senior Centre in Midland.

“I encourage everyone to come out to learn more about the services that are available in our community,” Dunlop said.
