The Simcoe County District School Board (SCDSB)’s Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program (OYAP) and partners are hosting the Simcoe Muskoka Skilled Trades Exposition on May 17. There are two parts to the event – a day session for students and an evening portion open to the public.

From 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Grade 8 students from Simcoe County and Muskoka have the opportunity to experience various trades by participating in a series of hands-on activities and demonstrations. From 5 to 7 p.m., the public is welcome to attend to speak to employers and industry experts.

“This is one of our introductory events for Grade 8 students. It is a great opportunity for students and the public to network with various skilled trades professionals and learn about future career opportunities,” says Elaine McLachlin, OYAP coordinator, SCDSB.

The Expo takes place at the Elmvale Community Arena, located at 14 George St. in Elmvale.

The Simcoe Muskoka Skilled Trades Expo is coordinated through a partnership between the County of Simcoe, Simcoe County District School Board, Simcoe Muskoka Catholic District School Board, City of Barrie, Simcoe Muskoka Workforce Development Board, City of Orillia, Springwater Township, Georgian College and the Flos Agricultural Society.
