The organization that awards the Leacock Medal for Humour is inviting students aged 14 to 19 across Ontario to enter their Student Humorous Story Competition.

Each year cash prizes of $1,000, $700 and $300 are offered for the three best stories or memoirs.

Winners will attend a meet-the-authors event in Orillia on Friday, Sept. 15 to receive their awards, and to have the opportunity to meet the finalist authors for the 2023 Leacock Medal for Humour and other authors, some of whom were finalists in past years.

The first-prize winner will also receive tickets and accommodation to attend the gala dinner on Saturday, Sept. 16, at which the winner of the 2023 Leacock Medal will be announced. Last year, the winning students were able to meet Canadian comedy icons Rick Mercer and Mark Critch in addition to many other authors who were in attendance.

Entries may be submitted online or by regular mail, before the deadline of June 15, 2023. Full details may be found at www.leacock.ca/studentaward.php.

These awards are kindly sponsored by the Dunkley Charitable Foundation.
