A 40-year-old tradition returns Sunday night to the shore of Lake Couchiching.
The annual Sunday Night Band Series at Orillia’s Rotary Aqua Theatre kicks off its 40th season Sunday night when the big band sounds of the region's top bands return to the beach.
This year's series will start Sunday evening when the Orillia Concert Band performs.
Here is this year’s schedule:
- June 24: Orillia Concert Band
- July 8: Orillia Silver Band
- July 15: Barrie Skyliners Big Band
- July 22: Newmarket Citizens Band
- July 29: Barrie Concert Band
- August 5: Muskoka Concert Band
- August 12: Northdale Concert Band
- August 19: Mississauga Pops Concert Band
- August 26: Markham Concert Band
All concerts run from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Aqua Theatre. In the event of inclement weather, they are held in the Gordon Lightfoot Auditorium at the Orillia Opera House.
This summer, there are also a few concerts planned for the recently refurbished Bandstand, near the Town Dock.
A legacy of the City of Orillia's 150th birthday celebrations in 2017, the Bandstand Revival brings music back to this historic site for four enchanted summer evenings from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday evenings: July 11, July 25, August 8 and August 22.
