NEWS RELEASE
WAYPOINT CENTRE FOR MENTAL HEALTH CARE
*************************
If someone you know has died by suicide, you are not alone. But you may feel that way. Grieving the loss of a loved one by suicide can seem very isolating.
It is common for those who remain to feel confused and traumatized. But death by suicide does not diminish the need for those who remain to celebrate the lives and accomplishments of their loved ones.
Waypoint Centre for Mental Health Care is honoured to host International Survivors of Suicide Loss Day on Saturday, Nov. 17 at the Midland Public Library. One of hundreds of events being held across Canada and the United States, it is a day for those affected by suicide loss to gather to gain understanding and find comfort in the knowledge that they truly are not alone.
The 2018 Survivor Day gathering will include a screening of A Daughter’s Journey, chronicling one daughter’s journey after the loss of her father.
“For many loss survivors, attending a Survivor Day event is an opportunity to discover that they are not alone in their experience of losing someone they know and love to suicide,” says Glenn Robitaille, director of ethics and spiritual care at Waypoint. “The event is meant to offer hope and (provide an opportunity to) learn from others experiences of how they’ve coped and moved toward healing.”
Following the screenings, Robitaille will lead the participants in a facilitated discussion focused on the contents of the film and finding hope and understanding after a suicide loss.
The event is free and everyone is welcome. If you have any questions, please contact Kristi Lalonde at [email protected] or 705-549-3181, ext. 2215.
