Two Toronto-area residents charged in connection with a drug bust last year will return to court later this spring for a preliminary hearing.
Milton’s Janilyn Batac, 30, and Toronto resident Jaiyden Jones, 22, Toronto, are both charged with possession of cocaine and marijuana and possession of both substances for the purpose of trafficking as a result of police raid of a room at the Econo Lodge on Memorial Avenue on Feb. 7, 2018.
Justice Stacey Nichols set aside a full day on June 17 and a half day on June 20 for the hearing involving Batac, who remains in custody, and Jones, who is free while awaiting trial, on the matter.
A third person charged in connection with the raid, which involved a joint investigation by the Orillia and Barrie community street crime units, Orillia OPP and Rama Police Service, pled guilty last November.
Tiffani Wray, 20, of Brampton was also charged with possession of heroin, possession of methamphetamine, possession of fentanyl, possession of marijuana, possession of cocaine, possession of marijuana for the purpose of trafficking, possession of cocaine for the purpose of trafficking and breach of recognizance in relation to the incident.
Wray was sentenced to six months in jail on those charges.
Batac, meanwhile, remains in custody and was charged last October with four new counts of possession of a schedule 1 substance for the purpose of trafficking and possession of property obtained by crime.
During the original investigation, police seized cocaine, heroin, marijuana, methamphetamine, fentanyl, a crossbow and paraphernalia associated with trafficking.
