***********************

The Orillia Concert Association (OCA) is proud to launch its 2018-2019 season by presenting the TakeFive Ensemble on Sunday, October 21, 2018, at 2:30 p.m. at the Orillia Opera House.

This talented group will treat you to Chamber Music’s Greatest Hits –  from Beethoven to Debussy, Schumann to Dvorak –  and features Shoshana Telner (piano), Lynn Kuo (violin), Csaba Koczó (violin), Theresa Rudolph (viola) and Emmanuelle Beaulieu Bergeron (cello).

In its inception as the Community Concert Association in 1947, we were the premiere outlet for fine music in Orillia. Today, we continue that tradition by providing exceptional musical entertainment from Canada and around the world as part of the rich cultural mosaic within the city.

Each year the OCA strives to assemble a varied program of world-class musicians to enrich the artistic passion of local music lovers, fulfilling its mandate to showcase top musical talent at an accessible cost.

This Oct. 21 performance will be the first of the OCA’s  five concerts scheduled for this season.

Here is a preview of what you can expect this year:

On November 18,  concert-goers will be treated to the exquisite sounds of Arkady Yanivker and his violin: A soloist extraordinaire that can only be described as impressive, versatile and positively brilliant. From Russia to Toronto with love, this concert master gives new meaning to virtuoso.

On February 3, 2019, the OCA presents Guy Few on trumpet, Stephanie Mara on piano, and Leslie Fagan, vocals:  an entertaining trio who have been delighting audiences with their talent and musical flair.

The Ensemble Vivant Octet  presents a Tribute to Rick Wilkins on Sunday March 3, 2019.  Canada’s Chamber Music Treasure, Ensemble Vivant, has bedazzled audiences for over 25 years with classical, Latin and Jazz arrangements. Led by pianist/artistic director Catherine Wilson, Ensemble Vivant pays homage to the great saxophonist Rick Wilkins who has arranged, composed and performed with the likes of Tommy Ambrose, Boss Brass, Anne Murray, Jackson Five and Oscar Peterson, just to name a few.

Perennial concert favourites Kerry Stratton and the Toronto Concert Orchestra round out the season on May 5, 2019, with their performance entitled “The Age of Elegance”. Stratton musically juggles Joseph Haydn and Johanne Hummel with style and finesse, as only the maestro and the Toronto Concert Orchestra can.

This 2018-2019 season continues the Orillia Concert Association’s tradition of presenting affordable, accessible, and professional performances.  A subscription for all five concerts is still available for only $90 ($30 for students).
