NEWS RELEASE
DOWNTOWN ORILLIA
*************************
Halloween is not just for kids... anymore!

On Oct. 23, venture if you dare, into downtown Orillia and experience all things that go bump in the night. Be led through haunted tours of the Orillia Museum of Art and History and Orillia Opera House and continue throughout frightful spaces in downtown Orillia. The Haunting promises to be even spookier than previous years with new features added this year.

While on the Nightmare on Peter Street tour at the Orillia Museum of Art and History, guests will be led into the darkness of the museum's basement to endure their more sinister guests, where ghosts from the building’s past are still said to wander.

Next, the Experimental Support Association (T.E.S.A) will be conducting a live investigation with their paranormal equipment detecting energies and spirits along the way. Have your own haunted artifacts? Bring them along, T.E.S.A will want to take a look.

During the Phantom of the Opera House tour at the Orillia Opera House, guests will be led through the inhabited building and historical spaces throughout the iconic Opera House while being enlightened with ghostly stories of spirits who still dwell there.

New this year, join the Old Dance Hall Players in the studio theatre, which will be transformed into a graveyard with spooks and kooks for a spooky yet comical show based on guests’ suggestions. End your tour with a memento of your time on the inside. Pose in front a creepy green scream complete with a Halloween backdrop offered by the Orillia Public Library.

Tours will also consist of participating downtown businesses, restaurants and pubs offering interactive and spooky Haunting features and Halloween themed food + spirits. Look for Jack-o'-Lanterns and Halloween themed displays in merchant windows and pop in to see what may lurk inside.

Event and Marketing Director for Downtown Orillia, Courtney Thompson, is excited about all the new features added to this year's event.

"Passports will once again be incorporated into the mix and offered to all tour participants for a chance to win a prize," said Thompson. " ack-o'-Lanterns and Halloween decor will be displayed in downtown storefronts just to add to the creepy Halloween ambiance and guest 'actors' from the Old Hall Dance Players will be guiding guests through the shadows on the night of the 23rd."

“All Haunting guests are also encouraged to attend the fun, family costume party the following Saturday on Oct. 26. Meet up in front of Studabakers Beachside, 211 Mississaga St. E., bring the kids and dress up in your best Halloween costume for a chance to win a prize” said Thompson.

Tickets to The Haunting are $25 and are available at the Downtown Orillia office at 33 Mississaga St. W. or online. Event is limited to those aged 16 years and older.

A listing of participating downtown venues will be available closer to the event date so stay tuned to downtownorillia.ca or follow Downtown Orillia on Facebook or Instagram for more terrifying information.
