One in eight women will develop breast cancer in their lifetime. These individuals are our mothers, aunts, daughters, sisters and neighbours.
To recognize the impact of this disease on not only them, but their families, while honouring those lives that have been taken, the County of Simcoe is proclaiming Tuesday, May 11 as National Denim Day.
National Denim Day is the main fundraiser for the CURE Foundation, which funds prevention, treatment and support related to breast cancer across Canada.
This year, the CURE Foundation is celebrating its 25th anniversary. Since it was founded in 1997, the Foundation has raised around $30 million for breast cancer research, education and equipment.
Denim Day is accessible to all Canadians and continues in spite of COVID-19. Donations can be made through their website https://www.curefoundation.com/donate/. The website also provides information and resources around all aspects of breast cancer.
“Unfortunately, we all know someone who has been impacted by breast cancer. In my case my wife Sandy is a 13-year survivor,” said Warden George Cornell. “On behalf of County Council, we feel it is extremely important to support the CURE foundation in continuing to raise awareness and vital funds toward research and further treatment advancements. Please join me in recognizing National Denim Day.”

For close to 25 years, CURE has been powering the fight against breast cancer by investing in programs for prevention and early detection, cutting edge research to improve treatment, and a range of supportive services for patients and their families. Grants are awarded to organizations across Canada who are doing important work in these areas.
