Two charged in rash of break-ins

Crimes alleged to have happened in Oro-Medonte and Tay in February and March
opp - too small!

(TAY TOWNSHIP, ON) - Members of the Community Street Crime Unit attached to the Southern Georgian Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have arrested and charged two Tay Township adults after completing a lengthy investigation stemming from a rash of reported break and enters.

The break and enters were reported in the Tay and Oro-Medonte townships dating from February to March 2018.

Uniform officers from detachment responded to the reports and investigative support was provided by the Community Street Crime Unit to help solve the property-related crimes.

As a result of this investigation the following persons have been charged and their charges are attached.

Jamie Paul DUBE 37 years of Tay Township

- 5 counts of possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5000 - in Canada contrary to section 354(1)(a) of the Criminal Code of Canada.

- 4 counts of trafficking in stolen goods under $5,000 (incl. possession with intent to traffic) contrary to section 355.5(b) of the Criminal Code of Canada

- 7 counts of fail to comply with recognizance contrary to section 145(3) of the Criminal Code of Canada

- 3 counts of break, enter dwelling house - commit indictable offence contrary to section 348(1)(b) of the Criminal Code of Canada

During the investigation the charged male was also involved in a traffic-related incident at 10:54 am on May 8, 2018, Highway 12 Tay Township. He has been charged with the following Criminal and Traffic Act offences.

- Dangerous operation of motor vehicle contrary to section 249(1)(a) of the Criminal Code of Canada

- Flight while pursued by peace officer contrary to section 249.1(1) of the Criminal Code of Canada

- Driving while under suspension contrary to section 53(1) of the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario

- Drive motor vehicle, no validation on plate contrary to section 7(1)(c)(i) of the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario

- Race a motor vehicle-stunt contrary to section 172(1) of the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario

- Fail to stop for Police [PURSUIT] contrary to section 216 of the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario

- Pass - roadway not clear - approaching traffic contrary to section 148(8)(a) of the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario

- Fail to comply with recognizance contrary to section 145(3) of the Criminal Code of Canada

He attended before the Ontario Court of Justice bail court in Barrie and remains in custody to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Midland at a later date.

Also charged is Mercy Miriah MAITLAND 31 years of Tay Township with the following property, drug and weapons offences.

- 9 counts possession property obtained by crime under $5,000 - in Canada contrary to section 354(1)(a) of the Criminal Code of Canada

- 8 counts trafficking in stolen goods under $5,000 (incl. possession with intent to traffic) contrary to section 355.5(b) of the Criminal Code of Canada

- 2 counts break, enter dwelling house - commit indictable offence contrary to section 348(1)(b) of the Criminal Code of Canada

- 1 count possession of weapon for dangerous purpose contrary to section 88 of the Criminal Code of Canada

- 1 count possession for the purpose Schedule 1 trafficking-cocaine contrary to section 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act

She has been released from police custody on a recognizance to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Midland on June 21, 2018.

During these break and enter investigations involved officers recovered over $5,000 of stolen property and have returned the property to the rightful owners.
