Ugly Sweater Bowling Party will help feed the hungry (7 photos)

More than $3,300 was raised at this year's 6th annual event, raising the total to more than $15,000 for The Sharing Place since the fun-filled event started

The sweaters were ugly, the bowlers were rolling and, in the end, a local charity was feeling thankful.

More than $3,300 was raised Friday night for The Sharing Place Food Centre at the sixth annual Ugly Sweater Bowling Party.

Organizer Derick Lehman said this year's earnings mean the event has now raised more than $15,000 since its inception.

And that's critical to the food bank, which is experiencing historically high usage.

“Monetary donations help the food bank with additional programming and to help them buy what they need," said Lehman.

Lehmann first came up with the concept six years ago as a means to raise money for the food bank during the busy holiday period.

But after being unable to find ice-time for an ugly sweater-themed skating party, he decided to turn it into a bowling bonanza at Orillia Bowl.
