Orillia Mayor Steve Clarke, in a video address to the community, announces details of the city's Be Kind campaign.

The city has launched a Be Kind campaign "to encourage the community to showcase and celebrate acts of kindness" as the pandemic stretches on, says Mayor Steve Clarke in a video address to the community released today.

The campaign, which started this week and runs until mid-December, is meant to be a "catalyst for spreading and recognizing kindness," said Clarke, while reminding everyone that, no matter the circumstances, "we always have the option to be kind."

"Being kind is always the better option," stressed Clarke, noting a simple act of kindness can "go a long way to change the trajectory of someone's day."

The mayor is encouraging citizens to choose patience, tolerance and respect in "daily interactions" both in-person and online.

He said there is "no greater act of kindness" than being fully vaccinated and implored residents to get both doses of the COVID-19 vaccine.

Clarke noted the city has partnered with OrilliaMatters to help promote kindness in the community. If you have a story to share about a local example of kindness and/or selfless generosity, please email [email protected].
