The swim must go on! The Ontario SPCA Orillia Animal Centre is encouraging people to stay active this summer by taking part in the Orillia Sun City Swim in August, which will be a virtual event this year for the first time in its 29-year history.

Event organizers are challenging anyone who loves to swim to set their own unique swimming goal, collect pledges to change the lives of animals, and complete their swim anywhere and anytime between Aug. 1-31. Swim laps in a pool or a distance of your choice in a lake with a spotter. Your goal is up to you.

All pledges raised support the Orillia Animal Centre. While swimmers may not be able to come together in one location this year, there will still be prizes to be won. Plus the personal satisfaction – and maybe even bragging rights – of reaching your goal.

“We are excited to once again partner with Sun City Swim to help local animals in need,” says Carol Beard, Manager, Ontario SPCA Orillia Animal Centre. “If you swim for fitness or pleasure, or want to challenge your cottage neighbours to a fun virtual event, we need you to put on your bathing suit and help change the lives of animals in need.”

The Sun City Swim is just one of the ways the Orillia Animal Centre is motivating people to keep moving and have fun in new ways this summer. The animal centre’s summer-long Sweat for Pets virtual fundraiser is also underway. Participants take part in weekly challenges, or create their own custom challenges.
