If you’re a snowboarding fan and are looking for a way to get closer to the action at a world-class event for free, the organizers behind the Alpine Snowboard FIS World Cup are looking for a few good volunteers.

The Alpine Snow TKO FIS Snowboard PGS World Cup will be coming to Blue Mountain Jan. 26 to 27, 2023, which will see top snowboarding athletes from around the world come to town to compete in speed races.

Michelle Gorman, a Collingwood-based volunteer member with Ontario Snowboard, says she’s looking to recruit about 120 volunteers to run this year’s event.

“It’s a really big deal from a world-of-snowboarding perspective,” said Gorman. “The more volunteers, the better.”

“It’s such an opportunity for the community as a whole in Collingwood and the area to get involved in a world-cup event,” she said.

Volunteer roles the organization is looking to fill include positions on-hill including at start/finish lines and on-course, at gates, floaters, volunteer food delivery as well as off-hill roles such as VIP concierge, race office, registration and event support.

All volunteers will receive full training for their roles and free swag to take home.

“The benefits are to support young athletes and getting front-row-seat access to a world cup event,” said Gorman. “It’s part of helping to grow Canadian snowboarding.”

“Snowboarding is an inclusive and supportive sport where everyone – athletes and spectators – are out to cheer on the racers,” she said.
