NEWS RELEASE
ORILLIA LIONS CLUB
*************************
For 84 years, Orillia Lions have raised money and volunteered their time to support our community, with a primary focus of helping the blind and youth.

After a two-year pandemic hiatus, we are excited to announce that our third annual Walk, Run or Wheel for Youth Education is going ahead this year on May 15. This event helps us continue this support and fund new youth learning initiatives.

The Walk, Run or Wheel for Youth Education will follow Education Week this year to avoid conflicts with other community events. Funds raised will be used to support youth learning.

Specifically, we make available $1,000 bursaries for up to two Orillia high school students who are blind or living with low vision and pursuing post-secondary education at university, college, apprenticeship, or another trade program.

This fundraiser will also assist in our continued support of other youth learning, such as the Orillia Youth Centre programs, the Orillia Public Library summer reading program, the Lakehead University Humanities 101 program, Teens on Edge, and supporting local camps for youth with special medical needs.

There is no entrance fee to participate; all we ask is that participants do their best to obtain donations. Participants can find additional details and a sponsor form on our Facebook page.

The event will be held at Tudhope Park again, where the walking trail is fully accessible, so anyone can participate. Service animals and leashed or carried pets are welcome. Participant registration begins at 2 p.m., with the Walk, Run or Wheel starting at 2:30 p.m. Participants can opt for two-and-a-half or five kilometres.
