NEWS RELEASE

MARIPOSA GRANDMOTHERS GROUP

********************

The upcoming Mariposa Grandmothers Group Yards and Yarns Sale will raise money to help African grandmothers.

On Saturday, Sept. 29, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., the Emmanuel Baptist Church, 300 Coldwater Rd. W. in Orillia, will be filled with a colourful array of beautiful fabrics, soft yarns, kits, books, patterns, beads, buttons and all imaginable types of fibre art and craft supplies.

Shoppers will receive a tote bag sewn by community volunteers, which can be filled with quilting, sewing, knitting, crocheting and rug-making supplies – all for just a $15 donation to a great cause.

If you have craft supplies of any sort you’d like to donate, please call Heather at 705-325-8594 or Tina at 705-259-2725.

The Mariposa Grandmothers Group is part of the Stephen Lewis Foundation’s Grandmothers to Grandmothers Campaign. This campaign was formed in 2006 as a Canadian grassroots response to the emerging crisis faced by African grandmothers as they struggled to care for millions of children orphaned by AIDS. African grandmothers became parents anew amid the HIV and AIDS epidemic. There are currently over 240 Grandmothers groups across Canada.
