NEWS RELEASE
SUNSHINE INITIATIVE
*************************
Orillians will gather on Saturday afternoon, Nov. 3, to share their ideas and energy on keeping Orillia as a great place to live, work and play. Then they’ll start something.

Since 2015, the Sunshine Initiatives forums have brought together over 150 citizens, many not affiliated with any organization.

They generated dozens of good ideas and conversations that have enriched community efforts and generated new initiatives, including advancements in mental health supports, better connections to healthy local food and new daycare projects.

As in previous years, a follow-up event in May 2019, the Orillia’s Choice Awards will feature and give added support to some of these ideas.

Mayor Steve Clarke launched the Sunshine Initiatives in 2015 to engage Orillians in making their city a happier and healthier community. The Sunshine Initiatives Working Group includes the mayor and other community leaders, all eager to build excitement among citizens with ideas for local improvements.

Little ideas, big ideas, transformative ideas – all will be welcome. Citizens who have ever thought “Something should be done about …” or “Why can’t we  …?” will be attending this year’s Orillia Community Forum 12:30-4:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 3 with space generously provided by St. James Anglican Church, and snacks at noon and throughout the afternoon, courtesy of Brewery Bay Food Co.

Participants in the Orillia Citizens Forum can register here.
