Action is heating up at Boyd Balkwill Memorial Lacrosse Tournament

Action in various divisions continues all day today and wraps up with medal games Sunday

Action is heating up today at the annual Boyd Balkwill Memorial Lacrosse Tournament.

This year’s event features 32 teams from across the province – and one from Baltimore, MD. Players range in age from 6 to 16 as teams compete in tyke, novice, peewee, bantam and midget divisions.

Orillia has teams in each division and several of the local squads have high hopes for medals as Sunday’s championship games draw near.

This popular tournament began in 1983, the year after Boyd Balkwill died. It started as a peewee tournament.

This year, Boyd’s grandson, Scott Balkwill, is the tournament’s convener and he is joined by a strong stable of volunteers and supported by a number of community sponsors that have stepped up to aid the tournament.

Because of the Cottage Country Con event this weekend at Rotary Place, games today and tomorrow are being held at the Oro-Medonte Arena in Guthrie and The MASK in Rama.
