Baycats miss chance to win title at home, losing in extra innings (11 photos)

Game 6 set for Saturday night in Kitchener, with Game 7 back in Barrie if necessary

BARRIE – Two down, two to go for the Kitchener Panthers as they try to complete an improbable comeback against the Barrie Baycats in the Dominico Cup IBL final. 

The Panthers needed 11 innings to knock off the Baycats 6-5 in Game 5 Thursday night at Coates Stadium.

Barrie still leads the best-of-seven series 3-2 with Game 6 Saturday night in Kitchener.  

Tanner Nivins and Colin Gordner each had two hits and two RBI in the win. The pair combined for three runs. Liam Wilson and Mike Gordner drove in a run apiece, and Jeff Hunt scored twice.  

Miguel Lahera (2-0) picked up the win with two scoreless innings of relief. Lahera scattered two hits and walked one with a pair of strikeouts.

Yoen Socarras earned his first save after allowing a solo home run to Kevin Atkinson in the 11th.  

Atkinson and Jordan Castaldo each had two hits in the loss, while Ryan Spataro went 4-for-6 with a solo blast. Kyle DeGrace scored twice, Ryan Rijo drove in a run, and Conner Morro added two RBI.  

Adam Hawes (0-1) took the loss, allowing two unearned runs on one hit in 2.1 innings. He walked three and struck out two.
