Swimmers in Grade 11 and 12 from the Orillia Channel Cats Swim Club recently competed at Guelph University in the Varsity Club Invitational Meet.

“Guelph has been very accommodating over the years by giving club senior swimmers a chance to race against varsity level swimmers. This gives them the opportunity to see how they may rank, and the chance to hear what the university's program is all about," said Channel Cats head coach Meredith Thompson-Edwards.

Coaches who are in attendance take the time at the end of the competition to chat with the club swimmers, and answer any questions they may have.

“This is a great opportunity in my opinion, even if a swimmer isn’t planning on attending Guelph post-secondary it is still a chance to check out a campus, meet new swimmers and learn about the program," adds Thompson-Edwards.

Swimmers in attendance included Holly McCool, Hughie Edwards, Caleb Near, Grier Kershaw and Megan Widmer. Edwards, Kershaw and Widmer are graduating this season. All three will be heading to university in the fall where they plan on becoming a varsity level athlete.
