ORILLIA CHANNEL CATS

The Orillia Channel Cats Swim Club recently competed in the Muskats Splash Meet in Bracebridge.
Swimmers from the Junior Novice, Senior Novice, Bronze and Silver training groups were in attendance.
For a few swimmers this was their first competition, and they handled it very well.
“We are proud of our swimmers for not letting their nerves take over and getting up and racing their best," said Cats Coach Tatum Haslem.
The Muskats Splash Meets are geared towards competition introduction and are also a great opportunity for swimmers to race some events for the first time.
“We had some more experienced swimmers racing to try events like 400 Individual Medley and 800 freestyle for the first time as well," said head coach Meredith Thompson-Edwards.
A few more swimmers qualified for Huronia Short Course Regionals: Tristan Sekleski (50 freestyle), Jackson Denne (400 freestyle and 50 freestyle), Charlee Tillmanns (200 Individual Medley) and Elle Waite (100 breaststroke).
“We currently have 39 swimmers qualified for regionals, and the 13-and-over standards are more difficult to reach this year. We hope to build on that number before the competition in early February," said Thompson-Edwards.
