The Collingwood Colts have announced the team has replaced its head coach and brought in a new associate coach.
An announcement on the Colts Facebook page states the team has “parted ways” with head coach Greg Johnston.
“It was a difficult decision to make, however, one we feel is best for the direction of the team at this time,” states a notice on the Colts’ Facebook page. “We wish Greg all the best with his future endeavours.”
In April this year, the Colts announced its bench staff including Greg Johnston as head coach and Nick Ricca as associate coach. Johnston played over 200 games in the NHL with the Boston Bruins and the Toronto Maple Leafs, and had been coaching Barrie minor hockey (AAA squad) in recent years.
A couple of hours after announcing Johnston was no longer head coach, the Collingwood Colts posted another statement to their Facebook page naming Thomas Milne as the new head coach.
According to the Colts’ announcement, Milne led the Trenton Golden Hawks (Junior 'A') to a 33-4-14 overall record last season, and led the Newmarket Hurricanes (Junior 'A') to a third-place finish in the Northeast Conference in 2017/2018 and carried them to the second round of the OJHL playoffs.
The post further states Milne previously coached for the Aurora Tigers - both as head and assistant coach and was part of the 2004 RBC Cup-winning staff.
Approximately one more hour after that, the Colts announced Darcy Roy as the new associate coach. Roy was also part of the coaching staff for the Newmarket Hurricanes, the Aurora Tigers, and the Trenton Golden Hawks.
