The temperatures are rising, the snow is melting and the promise of summer is in the air.
That means tennis season is inching closer.
The Orillia Tennis Club (OTC) has been busy preparing for its 2019 season.
The club conducted a survey of its members and the community last year to gather data that will help shape the programs and activities to be offered this summer and beyond.
Saturday, May 18 will serve as the season-opening weekend for the club and will also double as a time to register and learn more about the club.
On opening day, there will be registration available beginning at 9 a.m. at the West Orillia Sports Complex. There will be time for warm-up and on-court action in addition to a potluck to kick off the first day of the season, which will go until 2 p.m.
“It is a great time to meet all the friendly members and also brush up on your skills,” said OTC executive member Ron Delgado.
“New members are always welcome, beginners and experienced players alike,” said Delgado. “It is a great way to stay in shape and socialize with local players and residents.”
The club is also offering a free clinic on May 11.
Long-time local tennis player and coach Peter Koehli will serve as the instructor. There will be a session for novices from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. and a clnic for intermediate and advanced p;layers from 11 a.m. until noon.
The Orillia Tennis Club’s home is the four lit courts at the West Orillia Sports Complex behind Rotary Place.
The club has use of the courts from 9 a.m. until noon seven days a week. In addition, the club has secured the courts for its members on Monday and Wednesday evenings from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
