The Orillia Terriers are pleased to announce today that Kyle Heitzner will be returning to the Orillia Terriers next season and is going to be the captain for the team that plays in the eight-team Provincial Junior Hockey League’s North Carruthers Division.

A native of Orillia who grew up playing minor hockey for the Terriers before playing for the AAA North Centra Predators, Heitzner started his junior hockey career with the Cambridge Winterhawks Jr. B team after being drafted by the Barrie Colts in the 2015 OHL draft.

During the 2016–17 season, Heitzner cracked the Colts roster and spent the next two-plus seasons in the Ontario Hockey League with Barrie.

This past season, after being traded to the Mississauga Steelheads and playing five games there, Heitzner decided it was time to return to Orillia to play for his hometown team.

Although things didn’t go as planned for Heitzner, who suffered an unfortunate broken foot and then had to serve a lengthy suspension, he still came to the rink daily with a huge smile on his face.

Determined to come back after the suspension, Heitzner used this as a launching pad as he returned to the team and was a huge offensive threat in the team’s first round matchup versus the Penetang Kings

“It’s a huge honour to be named captain for the 2019-20 season," said Heitzner. "Last year, our captain, Jake Beard, did a great job setting a good example for the young guys on the team and I’m excited to do the same this year, as well as be a positive role model for young hockey players in the community.

"We are coming as a more experienced group and I’m hoping we can bring a championship back to Orillia.”
