Lakehead golfers shine at Georgian College Fall Invitational

Second-year golfer Noah Collins led the way with a third-place finish, helping the Orillia team to an 8th place showing at the tournament in Shanty Bay

The Lakehead Orillia Thunderwolves opened up the 2022 varsity golf season with a strong showing at the Georgian College Fall Invitational yesterday, hosted at Heritage Hills Golf Club in Shanty Bay.

Despite less-than-ideal conditions, second-year Lakehead golfer Noah Collins impressed on the course with a third-place finish, carding just three strokes over par with a score of 75. This is an Ontario College Athletic Association (OCAA) career best for Collins.

The Wolves' second lowest score was recorded by first-year golfer, Patrick Hayes, who shot an 81 in his debut showing with Lakehead Orillia.

As a team, the Thunderwolves finished the day with a combined score of 335 (+47), to land them 8th in the tournament standings. This is an improvement over last season's first tournament, where a score of 360 was recorded at the Durham College Open.

The Lakehead golf team is coached by well-known local golf pro Terry Smith.

Fanshawe College claimed the overall men's team title with a team score of 300 (+12), while Humber's two teams took second and third with scores of 302 and 314, respectively.

A busy pre-championship schedule concludes on Monday, Sept. 26 with the Lakehead team travelling to the Legends on the Niagara Golf Course for the Niagara Knights Fall Classic.
