The Northstar Marine Insurance Orillia Lakers U12 major atom boys basketball team hosted the Lakers Stamp Out Hunger Tournament this past weekend in Gravenhurst.
The Lakers won all three of their games while collecting non-perishable food items to support area residents struggling to make ends meet this holiday season.
The Lakers faced the South Muskoka Bracebridge Breakers in their first game on Sunday, prevailing 42-14.
The Lakers' second game, against Midland Magic, was very competitive from start to finish and featured some outstanding play from both sides. The Lakers finished strong, winning 50-32, while displaying excellent teamwork throughout the game.
On the last game of the day, the Lakers defeated a determined but undermanned Collingwood team 42-36 to sweep their Sunday schedule.
The Lakers played very well over the course of the tournament playing unselfishly and with great energy and passion.
The players worked hard on defence throughout their games and began to see the benefits of their practice and dedication.
Even their mascot “Finn” got involved and was seen cheering and dancing throughout the entire day supporting and taking pictures with all participating teams. Every player contributed to the success of the team on both sides of the ball in a true team effort.
Following the game, the Lakers posed for a picture with the food items they had collected for the event.
Coaches Mark Meeks, Angus Roy and Hayden Meeks thanked the boys and their families for their support of Stamp Out Hunger.
