Local skaters shine at Minto Summer Skate

Orillia's Dan Patriquin and Barrie's Sophia Gover garner silver medals in Ottawa

Dan Patriquin (Orillia Figure Skating Club) and his partner Sophia Gover (Barrie Figure Skating Club) competed at the Minto Summer Skate in Ottawa in the Pre-Novice Ice Dance category.

On Saturday, after the Pattern Dances, Dan and Sophia were in third place. After skating their Free Dance on Sunday, Dan and Sophia finished in second place, bringing home silver medals.

Dan and Sophia were more than thrilled to receive their medals from former Olympian Don Jackson. Congratulations Dan and Sophia and good luck in the GTSA Summer Skate in North York in August!

STAR SKATE

The Orillia Figure Skating club offers Star Skate (bronze/silver/gold sessions) starting Thursday, Sept. 6, 2018. The Orillia Figure Skating Club offers the following programs at Rotary Arena and Brian Orser Arena on Mondays and Wednesday evenings beginning Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2018
 
PreCan: For Children 3 to 5 years of age as of Dec. 31. This learn to skate program teaches children how to stand up, move forward and change directions. A one-to-two ratio is provided to skaters until they are able to skate on their own.

CanSkate: This learn to skate program incorporates fun with the basics of skating. Skaters receive ribbons and badges for each of the 6 stages completed.

PrePower: This program runs along side CanSkate sessions and teaches the core power skating skills (agility, endurance, and speed) needed for hockey. PrePower ribbons are rewarded to skaters who complete each level.

This season will include a year end Ice show. All skaters are invited to participate in the Ice Show at no extra cost. Costumes are provided for all involved at no cost. Ice Show date is Saturday, March 2, 2019.
