The Orillia Channel Cats Swim Club recently competed in two meets on the same weekend.

Ontario Youth Junior Championships were held June 16 to 19 at the Markham Pan Am Centre and Ontario Summer Festivals June 17 to 19 at the Etobicoke Olympium. Swimmers had to achieve the meet qualifying standard in one event in order to attend.

Orillia had four swimmers in attendance at the Ontario Youth Juniors, racing their way to personal bests and demonstrating resiliency. Those swimmers include Indiana Abram, Anna Holton, Evangeline Cooke and Taryn Fenton.

Two swimmers participated at Summer Festivals — Nadine Ackert and Adair Wieclawek. Maelle Bouchard also made the standard but was unable to attend.

“Four of our swimmers were competing at their first provincial-level meet, which was a great opportunity. All of them raced hard and focused on following their race plans. We are both very proud of their efforts,” said head coach Meredith Thompson-Edwards and assistant coach Tatum Haslem.

Up next for the club is a fun meet in Collingwood, followed by Ontario Swimming Championships and Canadian Junior/Senior Swimming Championships in Montreal later in July.
