The Orillia Men’s Slo-pitch team, sponsored by Wagner Lawn Care, has made their pitch for Blue Jays legends Roberto Alomar and Joe Carter to join them for a game at Tudhope Park.

As part of a contest through Budweiser Canada and the Toronto Blue Jays, fans were asked to submit their pleas to Alomar and Carter as to why they should join their local beer league team for a game later this summer.

Players from the Orillia squad jumped at the opportunity to become teammates with the World Series champions and created a slapstic video showcasing their lack of skill and highlighting how badly they need some talent on their team. They are now anxiously awaiting the results.

Braeden Price, who plays shortstop for Wagner Lawn Care, says the team wanted to give Orillia a chance to win the contest.

“Sharing the field with Robbie and Joe would be a dream come true for everyone on our team.” said Price, who joined teammates Tyler Evans and Mitchell Hurtubise in the effort. “Our main reason for making this video, was knowing how much it would mean to the people of this city, to have those guys playing here in Orillia.”

Budweiser Canada has noticed the Orillia effort. Yesterday, the brewing company Tweeted a highlight video of their best pitches so far, and it featured the Orillia team's effort.

The contest closed just before midnight Friday. But judges will make their final decision on all submissions by July 25.

Evans is hoping Orillia gets behind the contest by sharing it on social media.

"It would really help our cause if people shared it as much as possible," he said.
