Mariposa's competitive gymnasts start season in fine form

Local athletes showcased their skills in a competition designed to test their strength, flexibility and endurance

With the competitive season underway, Mariposa gymnasts are showing their strength, flexibility and power.

Six of the club's youngest competitors recently hit the floor to compete in the Ontario Developmental Program. The girls showcased their skills in a competition designed to test their strength, flexibility and endurance.

Rachel Fitzgerald and Willow Shepherd brought home a gold medal finish, Amelia Vodarek and Irelynn Watson brought home silver medals and Arizona Mathias and Lily Watson captured bronze medals.

Soon after, the gymnasts set out to achieve their competitive goals and came home with some very impressive scores.

In the Level 1 age 9 category, Addie Haecker placed 3rd on vault, 6th on bars, 2nd on beam, 2nd on floor and 4th all around.

The Level 2 gymnasts made their debut appearance with some wonderful results. Abigail Farcas placed 4th on vault, 5th on bars, 4th on beam, 4th on floor and 4th all around. Sofie Long-Bokma placed 8th on vault, 3rd on bars, 6th on beam, 6th on floor and 7th all around.

Emily MacDonnell placed 3rd on vault, 10th on bars, 8th on beam, 6th on floor and 10th all around. Abigail Epps placed 3rd on vault, 4th on bars, 7th on beam, 7th on floor and 8th all around.

Avery Martynyshyn placed 7th on vault, 5th on bars, 7th on beam, 6th on floor and 7th all around. Charley Huter placed 2nd on vault, 7th on bars, 3rd on beam, 9th on floor and 8th all around.

Chloe L’Ecuyer placed 4th on vault, 2nd on bars, 5th on beam, 6th on floor and 5th all around while Mackenzie Walbank placed 6th on vault, 8th on bars, 6th on beam, 9th on floor and 10th all around.

Sadie Wilson placed 2nd on vault, 5th on bars, 6th on beam, 8th on floor and 5th all around while Faith Elford placed 4th on vault, 8th on bars, 2nd on beam, 7th on floor and 7th all around.

In Level 3, Alanna Mills placed 2nd on vault, 10th on bars, 8th on beam, 9th on floor and 10th all around. Madison Milliard placed 9th on vault, 9th on bars, 9th on beam, 9th on floor and 10th all around.

Maddison Dunn placed 7th on vault, 6th on bars, 8th on beam, 7th on floor and 7th all around and Maggie Lynch placed 2nd on vault, 6th on bars, 2nd on beam, 7th on floor and 5th all around.

Emma Thomson placed 7th on vault, 1st on bars, 2nd on beam, 2nd on floor and 3rd all around and Finley Benedek placed 1st on vault, 7th on bars, 3rd on beam, 7th on floor and 4th all around.

Ella Rupke placed 5th on vault, 4th on bars, 7th on beam, 8th on floor and 5th all around and Ella Haecker placed 2nd on vault, 5th on bars, 11th on beam, 10th on floor and 7th all around.

Olivia Speare placed 3rd on vault, 5th on bars, 6th on beam, 4th on floor and 3rd all around. Ava MacDonnell placed 9th on vault, 13th on bars, 9th on beam, 7th on floor and 14th all around.

Moving onto Level 4, Rayne Noganosh placed 5th on vault, 11th on bars, 1st on beam, 5th on floor and 4th all around and Billie Rouse placed 4th on vault, 8th on bars, 7th on beam, 7th on floor and 5th all around.

Maiya Krynicki placed 6th on vault, 9th on bars, 13th on beam, 9th on floor and 11th all around while Lila Hill placed 4th on vault, 9th on bars, 3rd on beam, 8th on floor and 7th all around. Addison Ayers placed 3rd on vault, 9th on bars, 4th on beam, 3rd on floor and 4th all around.

The Level 5 gymnasts worked hard and managed to score well in a tough division. Brooke-Lynn May placed 4th on vault, 12th on bars, 2nd on beam, 3rd on floor and 7th all around.

Autumn Prior placed 6th on vault, 9th on bars, 9th on beam, 9th on floor and 12th overall. Maeghan Duck placed 4th on vault, 8th on bars, 12th on beam, 4th on floor and 8th all around. Isabelle McPhee placed 7th on vault, 11th on bars, 9th on beam, 9th on floor and 9th all around.

Rhiannon Wolf-Hambsch placed 7th on vault, 15th on bars, 4th on beam, 3rd on floor and 11th all around. Sophie Hoy placed 9th on vault, 14th on bars, 5th on beam, 13th on floor and 12th all around. Sacha Versace placed 10th on vault, 6th on bars, 6th on beam, 4th on floor and 5th all around.

Lastly in Level 5, Rianna Platt placed 8th on vault, 8th on bars, 8th on beam, 8th on floor and 7th all around.

The Level 6 gymnasts competed well at their second provincial qualifier. Savanna Benson placed 9th on vault, 2nd on bars, 14th on beam, 6th on floor and 7th all around.

Lauren Leach placed 8th on vault, 7th on bars, 12th on beam, 4th on floor and 10th all around. Brynn Thurlow placed 5th on vault, 3rd on bars, 4th on beam, 10th on floor and 3rd all around. Emma Hand placed11th on vault, 1st on bars, 9th on beam, 9th on floor and 8th all around while Lauren McPherson placed 9th on vault, 3rd on bars, 5th on beam, 10th on floor and 5th all around.

Lastly, our Level 7 gymnasts worked hard for their high scores. Mattea Wafelbakker placed 2nd on vault, 8th on bars, 1st on beam, 6th on floor and 7th all around and Marina Thomas placed 1st on vault, 4th on bars, 6th on beam, 2nd on floor and 1st all around.

As the season progresses, the gymnasts at Mariposa are getting stronger and are eager to compete again at the end of February in Belleville.
