Orillia is Hockeytown this weekend! (6 photos)

70 teams have converged on local rinks for the annual Jim Wilson Classic

Orillia is Hockeytown this weekend.

Local rinks and restaurants will be bustling throughout the weekend as 70 teams have converged on the Sunshine City for the annual Jim Wilson Classic.

Teams, from as far away as Temiskaming, Kapuskasing, Sudbury and Elliott Lake in the north to Waterloo and Ottawa and Welland and all points in between, are skating for championship banners in 11 different divisions.

Orillia teams are hoping to take advantage of home ice; there are local teams in every age group.

Last year, four local teams won their divisions at the popular annual tournament that is held at four area rinks: Rotary Place and Brian Orser Arena in Orillia, the Rama MASK and the Coldwater Community Centre.

Action began early this morning and there will be more than 130 games played throughout the weekend.

The tournament concludes Sunday with the finales in each division; the last scheduled games are slated to begin at 5:15 p.m. Sunday afternoon at Rotary Place, the tournament's headquarters.

If you want to cheer on the home side or just enjoy some good hockey, admission is free all weekend.
