The Kelsey’s Orillia Lakers Novice Girls came home with the silver medal this past weekend at the Blessed Sacrament Yellow Jackets 2018 Invitational in Hamilton.

The Lakers started strong in pool play, first defeating the St. Thomas Shock by a score of 23-7. Top scorers were Emma Dongelmans with 12 points, Alison Rolston with six points, and Ryan Lazier adding another four points. 

The team then faced the Barrie Royals and came out on top once again by a score of 33-16. The top scorers in the game were Alison Rolston with 12 points, Lily Balaisis with nine points, Ryan Lazier with six points, and Emma Dongelmans with four points. 

Although the Lakers lost their third game in pool play, they earned a spot in the semi-final against the Tecumseh Saints. This game ended in a 20-20 tie in regulation but the Lakers dominated overtime by a score of 10-0, solidifying their spot in the gold medal final. Top scorers in the semi-final were Emma Dongelmans with 10 points, Lily Balaisis with eight points, Alison Rolston with five points, and Sienna McParland with four points.

The Lakers faced another tough Tecumseh Saints team in the final and although the Lakers lost, they played with heart and represented the city of Orillia with pride.
