The Orillia Lakers U10 Novice Girls wrapped up the 2019/2020 season at the Ontario Cup Championships in St. Catharines this past weekend.
They came out strong, winning their first game against London CYO 24-13. The second game was a nail-biter against Brantford CYO #3. In the end the team came up short by 1 point in the last seconds of the game, losing 15-14.
The team played hard and strong for the next two games, however they were unable to clinch the bronze medal and ultimately they finished in fourth place in their division.
Their coaches, Todd Landon and Josh Barath, were extremely proud of the team and all that they achieved this season. The team sponsor, Dan Parnell of Royal LePage, voiced how proud he was to invest in such a great group of young athletes.
Laura Morgan, a first-time Orillia Lakers parent, had this to say about their experience: “It’s our daughter’s first year in the Lakers program and it’s been a very positive experience. We love watching the girls cheer each other on and their improvement over the past months has been huge!”
They team played with heart and determination all season. They have grown tremendously in the areas of both offensive skills, defence techniques and all-around sportsmanship. The girls proved this season that they can accomplish their goals when they work together and play as a team.
Way to go U10 Novice Girls! See you next season!
