Despite challenges of COVID, it was a successful season, officials say, noting new members came on board while many improvements took place

Last week was extremely busy at the Orillia Lawn Bowling Club!

Besides the regular bowling schedule from Monday to Friday, a special event took place on Wednesday (Sept. 15) to thank the city, provincial and federal government representatives for the financial assistance given to the club in 2021.

On Saturday (Sept. 18), the final Fun tournament, sponsored by Fran Woodhurst Painting, took place. Fran is also a very active member of the Orillia Lawn Bowling Club.

Between the second and third games, the club held its annual membership meeting, where the Board of Directors were confirmed for 2022.

The winning team for the Fun Tournament was skipped by Barry Holloway with Jim Hoover and John Van Campen. Rick Swinton was the drawmaster for the event.

Second place went to Ross Gilmore with Chery Duncan and Shirley Healy.

Third place winners were Don Fleming with Paul Evans and Barry Cockburn.

Weather permitting, there will be two weeks of bowling left this season. The “green” will then be put to bed for the winter!

In spite of all the problems faced during this COVID year, we consider it a success. New members joined the club and many improvements took place due to the hard work of the many volunteers.

We are looking forward to a more normal year of competitive and fun bowling in 2022. Come and join us!
