The Ellwood Epps Sharpshooters hockey team battled at the May Madness tournament, ompiling a record of 4-1-1 to capture the silver medal.

On Friday the Orillia-based squad shut out the Don Mills Stampede 3-0 to start the tournament. Scoring for Orillia was Sam Laughlin (2) and Ty Snellman. Assists were credited to Whyatt Winkel, Jhett Winkel and Snellman. Mitchell Webb was stellar in goal with the shutout.

Game 2 on Friday saw the Sharpshooters give up a goal with 1.4 seconds left to allow the Toronto-based ASAP hockey clinch a tie 3-3. Scoring for the Sharpshooters was Austin Holenski, Robbie Rutledge and Owen Norman. Jonah Teahen and Caden Pattenden tallied assists along with J. Winkel and Snellman.

The Sharpshooters beat the Aurora Pitbulls in Game 3 of the tournament 4-1 in a rough and chippy affair that saw multiple players ejected. Goals were scored by Teahen (2), Rutledge and Norman. Donald Hoskins added two assist for the Sharpshooters.

The 2-0-1 record meant the Sharpshooters had to win in order to advance to the top division semi-final and the squad did not disappoint, winning 3-2 over Humber Valley in a high-paced back-and-forth game.

Scoring for the Sharpshooters was Teahen, Laughlin and Snellman. Assists were tallied by Owen Palaro, Kaiden Robitaille, Brock Jeffles, Holenski, Norman and W. Winkel.

The Sharpshooters finished in second place and earned home ice against the Chatam Bardowners. After spotting the Chatam team a 2-0 lead the Sharpshooters goalie Jackson Mitchell slammed the door in net allowing the Orillia team to place a spirited comeback.

Colby Barlow was the star of the show in this game, netting two goals and the eventual game winner late in the 3-on-3 overtime to give him the hat trick and the Sharpshooters the victory. Assists went to Ben Power, Sam Power, Dyl Hendrick and Holenski.

The thrilling OT victory set up a rematch with Humber Valley who upset the top-seeded team to reach the final.

After a spirited first period the Sharpshooters gave up a few power play goals and lost their composure after some very questionable decisions by referees and tournament organizers ejecting two players from the game. '

The Sharpshooters battled hard in the third but could not solve the Humber Valley Keeper. The 3-0 loss meant the Orillia squad had to settle for a silver medal.
