NEWS RELEASE
ORILLIA AND DISTRICT SOCCER CLUB
*****************

Players from the Orillia and District Soccer Club’s (ODSC) house league divisions wrapped up their summer season with the chance to showcase their new skills and fitness to their family and friends.

For many of the younger players, it was their first experience with the sport and the final day of play was a chance participate in a mini-tournament or round robin, take part in a variety of skill building activities and then finish off with pizza and snacks.

Our season would not have been nearly the success it was without the gracious sponsorship and assistance of many local businesses. We would like to thank Tim Hortons for the sponsorship of our U4-U6 division, which supported more than 200 players, and BMO for the sponsorship of a total of 10 teams in our U9-U10 and U11-U12 divisions, supporting at least 100 players. We would also like to recognize and thank the following local businesses for their support of our house league teams: Giant Tiger (two teams), A Perfect View Tree Service, A&W Orillia, Mundell Funeral Home, Weed Man, Carson Funeral Home, Experience Nissan, Orillia First Aid, and Speedy Glass. Our house league would not have been the success it was without these sponsorships.

Our travel team program also benefited from the sponsorships of the following companies: Gen Con Construction, A&W, Apple Athletic Products, BDO Canada LLP, Sports Medicine Orillia, EDI Inc. and Opdenkelder Landscapes and Design. The support these businesses provide allow our club to continue to provide the best travel team experience and programs in the Orillia area.

A very special thank you to Domino’s Pizza in Orillia, which not only sponsored two of our house league teams, but also graciously provided all the pizza for our year-end festivals and our U8 tournament in July. Many happy faces were seen when each team received their box of pizza and snacks following their final games.

The ODSC would to thank an important group of people that often go unnoticed during the season. We are fortunate to have a dedicated group of officials manage our games in a fair and consistent manner. Their professionalism and presence at games make our club stand out and apart from others.

We are truly grateful for all the local support that we receive as a club. It is because of our great community, sponsorship, officials and volunteers that our club is the best in the area not only for providing a fun and encouraging environment for young athletes, but also for providing skill and game development.

If your child is interested in joining our club or you or your company are interested in volunteer or sponsorship opportunities, please contact the club officer ([email protected]).

Orillia Lightning soccer U8 developmental teams showcase their skills

Orillia Lightning soccer was well-represented when a talented and energetic group of U8 girls and boys took to the fields at the Barrie Soccer Club on Aug. 19 for a tournament style of competition between clubs from around the region. With enough athletes to field three full teams, the club is excited to have so much interest and skill developing at this age level, and will continue to identify and provide opportunities for our players.

As a club that promotes, supports and encourages fair play, comradery and enjoyment of the game as the foundation for all our players, it was a highlight to watch these young athletes demonstrate their teamwork and spirit of play amidst some tough and challenging opponents. Our players showed that they have the talent to play and win against some of the best clubs in the area. We were thankful to have the support and cheering voices of all our soccer parents and all teams are to be commended for their hard work and perseverance on a hot and humid day.

A special thanks to Megan Lewis, Josh Barath and John Bard for committing and dedicating the extra time to coaching these up and coming soccer players, and to Jeff Rock for stepping in to fill coaching needs without hesitation.

We look forward to seeing these young players develop further next season.

If you have a child that would like to join the club for either house league or more competitive play, please contact the club office ([email protected]) to find out more about our club and what we offer during both the winter and summer seasons.

Orillia Lightning soccer winter skills development sessions

Following a very successful summer season for our players and teams, the Orillia and District Soccer Club will be hosting winter skills development sessions indoors at ODAS Park. We would like to build on the foundation and interest that has been growing over the last few years with our U8-U12 players and those that feed into this age group (U6/U7). These sessions will offer a mix of mini-games and skills-based play for any interested athletes and will feed into our summer 2019 programs.

Please contact the soccer office ([email protected]) if your child would be interested in this program or you are interested in helping us make this valuable program a reality by volunteering.
