The Orillia Channel Cats Swim Club recently participated in the Guelph Splash and Dash long-course invitational.

Forty-three swimmers competed in the meet, posting many personal best times, and raced some events for the first time in a long-course pool. Swimmers ranging in age from nine to 18 were in attendance, and worked together to build team cohesion.

“This was our first team travel meet since 2019. Therefore, many swimmers in attendance have never had the opportunity to experience it,” said head coach Meredith Thompson-Edwards. “It was very refreshing to see the older swimmers interacting so positively with the younger swimmers, providing feedback and giving them support throughout the weekend.”

Blythe Wieclawek set a new club record in the 15-and-over girls 200-metre individual medley (2:26.55). The club also had a few 12-and-under swimmers race a 400-metre freestyle for the first time, and they did a great job holding their pace.

Swimmers in attendance include Jackson Denne, Hayden Nie, Sam Pecorella, Kaitlyn Allin, Katie Heckendorn, Adair Wieclawek, Kaitlyn Burden, Indiana Abram, Alex Baillie, Kajun Butler, Riley Shore, Mila Sekleski, Emma Edgerton, Kamryn Light , Maelle Mooney, Maya Levene, Sylvia Chabot, Leah Guller, Rydaar Watt, Christopher Dorevich, Cohen Greer, Hartley Russell, Anna Holton, Taryn Fenton, Esmee Rosati, Blythe Wieclawek, Grace Hunter, Nadine Ackert, Sophia Brown, Anna Vurma, Elana Carrigan, Isabella Brown, Zoe Baker, Ava Fairgrieve, Georgia Cameron, Sophie Shivers, Niko Plett, Fedor Radzievskii, Kael Cresanto, Boyd Brown and Patrick Burden.

The Cats are preparing for the MUSAC June Invitational, followed by two provincial-level meets for swimmers to meet the qualifying time: Summer Festivals for 13-and-under swimmers, Ontario Youth Junior Championships for 13 and over and then the Collingwood June Invitational.
