Last Friday, the junior boys football team improved their record to 3-0 with a hard fought 12-8 win over Bear Creek.

The game was a defensive battle as neither team could gain much ground or sustain drives in the early going.

OSS was eventually able to advance thanks to the powerful running of fullback Caleb Sawyer who dragged several defenders with him on each carry. Reaching the goal line, quarterback Mason Bard eventually scored with a short run.

The second half saw more impressive defence as neither team could gain an advantage until a 65-yard punt return by Scott Ivancic left OSS with first-and-goal at the five-yard line.

Ivancic would eventually score from the one-yard line.

A determined Bear Creek team then marched the ball down the field on their best drive of the day, mixing run and pass plays to eventually score a touchdown and two-point conversion to make the score 12-8.

The final five minutes of the game saw several swings in momentum as each team traded big plays and costly penalties with a final Bear Creek pass being knocked down at the 20-yard line to end the game.

The coaches were particularly impressed with the defensive effort shown by the team including interceptions by Tyson Gibson and Grayden Asselin.

Next action is Thursday, Oct 21 at 2:30 p.m. versus Barrie North.
