The Orillia Hawks Senior C team won its second straight provincial Ontario Women's Hockey Association championship on the weekend.

The Hawks went undefeated in the round robin games. Orillia skated to a narrow 4-3 win against the Milverton Senior C team, defeated the Embro Highlanders 5-2 and tied the Waterloo Ravens 1-1.

These were hard-fought games with a fantastic team effort.

Haylee Lawlor netted three goals, Mikayla Rae netted a pair, while Laura Kennedy, Jessi Cranney, Kayla LaCroix, Jillian Armstrong, and Megan Allore each scored a goal.

Caitlin Kubiseski was credited with three assists in round robin play, while Kennedy, Danielle Jeffreys, Carly Payne, Armstrong, Crystal Ferguson and Brittney Bince each had single assists. Goalies Robin Root and Gaby Mondelli were solid in net allowing the team to move on to the final games.

In the quarter finals vs. Huntsville Sting, the Hawks won 4-1. Caitlin Kubiseski scored a pair and singles were added by Haylee Lawlor and Laura Kennedy. Assists went to Jillian Armstrong, Laura Kennedy, Danielle Jeffreys and Caitlin Kubiseski . Robin Root in net shut the competitors down by allowing only one goal.

Orillia defeated the Stratford Aces 3-1 in the semi-final matchup to punch their ticket to the title game. Carly Payne netted a pair and Caitlin Kubiseski added a single marker. Assists went to Kayla LaCroix, Caitlin Kubiseski (2) and Haylee Lawlor. Gaby Mondelli was amazing in net!

The Hawks capped their perfect weekend with a 3-2 victory over the St. Mary's Storm in the gold-medal clash.

This was an excellent game with everyone contributing to the victory. The first goal of the game was scored by Laura Kennedy unassisted. Caitlin Kubiseski scored two goals, netting the winning goal with 6:29 on the clock.

The team was successful in defending against the Storm and they were only able to pull their goalie with 42 seconds left on the clock. Great defensive play by the team was critical; the Hawks also had to kill a late penalty. Robin Root was solid in net, denying the Storm the chance to send the game into overtime.

Special thanks to the team staff, Jamie Robinson, Ron Robinson, Jeff Rae and Ken LaCroix for working with the team and helping to ensure their success at provincials. As well, thanks to all the support from our awesome fans!

Winning gold was an amazing end to a successful weekend for our repeat gold medalists, the Senior C team! Go Hawks!
