Persistence pays off as long-time local golfer hits hole-in-one

Bob Smith, centre, recorded a hole in one this week at Hawk Ridge. His feat was witnessed by playing partners Ralph Lauer of Orillia and his cousin, Terry Smith, of Toronto.

Bob Smith of Orillia, after more than 50 years of playing golf, scored his first career hole in one on Tuesday, July 14.

Smith aced the 17th hole on the Meadow Nest course at Hawk Ridge Golf Club. He hit an 8 iron into a strong wind to ace the 131-yard hole.  

The shot was witnessed by playing partners Ralph Lauer of Orillia, and Bob's cousin, Terry Smith of Toronto.
