The first thing you notice walking into Top of the Hill Farm, located just outside of Orillia, is a wall full of colourful ribbons, many of them Grand Champion.

“Our farm is having an exceptional show season,” says farm owner and head coach, Erin Amos. “This year we have a very strong string of horses competing and a dedicated group of riders ranging in age from 4 years old too, ummm, over 40 years old”.

The ribbons were won this past weekend by the farm’s competitive show team at the Jack Pine Equestrian Centre Horse Show in Owen Sound, as part of the Georgian Bay Trillium Hunter Jumper Show Circuit.

The event kicked off Friday with the Jumpers, a timed event in which the horse/rider combinations have to cross the finish line in the fastest time without knocking down the jumps.

Top of the Hill did really well with almost all of the horses coming home a ribbon. “We are in a rebuilding year for our jumpers, so for almost everyone to come home with a prize is super.”

On Saturday; the farm’s Junior Professional Trainer, Cameron Edwards kicked off the hunter divisions with a reserve champion win at the 2’3” height, riding Amos’ young mare Wanabi Famous.

“I can not say enough good things about this horse” beams Edwards, “I just love riding her, she really enjoys being a show horse.”

The hunters is a judged event, in which the way the horse moves and preforms over and in-between the fences is how a winner is determined.

Bradi Moore took home the top spot in the Low Hunters on Amos’ seasoned show horse, Chicago K.

“These two are having an incredible year,” claims Amos “they have been champions every show they have competed in for the Low Hunters’, and currently sit in the top spot overall for the division in the zone.”

Ayela Wright and her horse Limitless were awarded with the reserve ribbon in the Modified Hunter Division. In the equitation ring, which is judged on the rider, Celeste Watson won both the Modified Medal and the Adult Equitation Medal.

The farm then swept the Hack Division’s two top spots on Sunday, with Chelsea McGee piloting Eighth Wonder of the World to the champion tri-colour ribbon and Nicole Donovan getting reserve champion on GL Sullivan.

The show team ended out the weekend with 8-year-old Taylor Macdonald getting the over all win in the Short Stirrup Division aboard Amos’ school pony, Gwendolyn and taking the gold medal in the My First Medal Class.

The team will compete at the Essa Agriplex in Barrie this weekend coming up. “All of these riders are hoping to finish in the top seven of their respective divisions, so they can qualify for the Ontario Trillium Hunter/Jumper Championships.” explains Amos.

Top of the Hill Farm is a competitive hunter/jumper show barn located in Oro-medante.
